Hitting pan - Argan vs Macadamia oil

"I've hit pan!....twice" Those 3 little words only come once or twice in a year for me. I'm pretty bad at using up products, since I have a habit of buying new products I never really get a chance to finish up my old ones. So to give you a little background my skin is oily and so is my scalp. So any products that is "oil" base kind of scares me away, yet I decided to give these hair oils a try since I've seen many reviews that they are light and don't feel oily at all.

The first product that I purchased was the Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum. My hair is currently super dry and damaged from lots of coloring, and I keep hearing the wonders that Argan Oil does. I started using this serum daily, just applying it on my ends only. It probably took me about 6-7 months to hit pan. After using this my whole perception of oil products changed since this was super light weight and did not feel oily on my hair at all.

Overall I don't think it repaired or reversed my damaged hair because when I didn't use it my hair went back to being dry and brittle. What it did do is make my hair softer and more manageable when I used it.

Repurchase: Yes (but since it's on the pricier side I would most likely wait for specials or sales)

What it does: $30
It's the shine of the times! Argan Oil Hair Serum delivers instant shine and long-lasting rejuvenation. Argan Oil naturally penetrates the hair to help moisturize each layer of the hair strand for long-term hair repair so your hair actually looks and feels healthier, silkier, and extraordinarily shiny. Subtly scented with geranium and bergamot fruit oils, the ultra-light, never-greasy, alcohol-free formula penetrates the hair shaft to seal split ends and deliver intense moisture to each layer of the hair strand. All hair types will instantly look and feel healthier, silkier, and shinier.

After having a pretty good experience with the Argan Oil I decided to try out Carol's Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Serum since it had a friendlier price tag. This had the same feel as the Argan Oil but just a little lighter in texture. It's also suppose to have heat protection properties so that's another plus since I blow dry on a daily basis. As with the Argan Oil I applied this on my ends only. The results were fairly similar as it made my hair feel more softer and manageable, but it did not repair my hair in the long run. I would have to say the Argan oil is a tad more moisturizing because it made my hair feel a bit softer but it's not a huge difference.

Repurchase: Yes. Friendlier price tag and has heat protection properties.

What it does: $18
This high-shine gloss controls unmanageable frizz and protects against heat damage while styling your hair. The blend of macadamia oil and hydrolyzed silk smooths your hair's texture for better shine and strengthens against daily wear and tear. It's concentrated, so a little goes a long way, but it never leaves your hair feeling greasy or heavy.

Currently I am out of both so my hair has been suffering. I will most likely be getting the Carol's Daughter serum again. Any one else been using hair oils or have any to recommend?

Discounted beauty finds at Big Lots

After reading Nouveau Cheap's blog post (http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com/2012/07/spotted-at-big-lots-my-holy-grail.html?m=1) about a reader spotting discounted beauty items at Big Lot's I was curious to check it out myself. I have been to Big Lot's a few times but never once have I thought of checking out the beauty section. I mostly go there to find random house hold items.

Sadly I did not find any physician's formula foundation but I believe I did hit a pretty good jack pot on beauty finds.

The prices were amazingly cheap! One thing you have to be careful of is open packages. Be sure to double check if the item you are buying has been used or tampered with. It took me a few tries to find a philosophy lip gloss that didn't have a finger mark in it.

I'm definitely going to be checking out Big Lot's on a regular basis now for new beauty deals !
